Position/philosophy statement I will be responsive to the needs of the community and zealously advocate for those who feel that their voices were silenced in the past.
Drug addiction in Carteret County is reaching epic proportions. According to the North Carolina Health and Human Services, Carteret County suffered a 56% higher rate of unintentional medication and drug overdoses compared to the state average.

In 2017, the current Board of Commissioners declared the Opioid Crises a public nuisance and helped fund a detox center in Onslow County. But what have they done since then?

If elected, I would advocate for a long term treatment facility in the county. When addicts have access to local treatment, they are more likely to succeed. They have the support of their families, are able to work, and can become productive members of our community.

People are dying and families are suffering. We CANNOT afford the cost of doing nothing.
Our children deserve the best we can provide. This means supporting and fully funding our teachers, school staff, and the facilities. Without the resources needed, our children and our community's future will suffer. As Commissioner, I will listen to the Board of Education and support their needs to allow growth, safety, and resources for all children.

Additionally, I believe the Board of Education is its own entity voted on by the public, and the Board of Commissioners should not dictate how funds are spent. There needs to be a healthy separation between the Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education.
