The greatest challenge facing Maine right now is to support people and small business owners in their recovery from the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic has caused many Mainers to lose their jobs along with their healthcare and has also resulted in declining revenue for small businesses statewide. It has also shown the need for expanding broadband Internet into rural communities across Maine that lack affordable and reliable Internet for educational and business purposes.
If elected to represent Maine House District 121, my top three priorities would be to support the economic recovery of working-class Mainers and small businesses owners who have been negatively affected by the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, to increase the accessibility and affordability of healthcare for all Mainers, and to support the expansion of high-speed broadband Internet access for rural Maine.
I will encourage greater civic engagement among my constituents with outreach and education. As a State Representative I will be the bridge between what is happening in my district and in Augusta. I will be as open and transparent about the current events unfolding in the legislature and communicate with my constituents on a regular basis to provide both updates and opportunities for education and participation.
I will support economic recovery in my district by supporting legislative efforts to increase revenue and reduce costs in a way that helps the people and small business owners who have been directly affected by the economic impact of the pandemic in a way that does not reduce the availability or delivery of essential services. We need to focus on legislation that utilizes our tax system in a way that will benefit working class Mainers and small business owners over large corporations and the wealthy.
