The greatest challenges we face are addressing the needs of Maine workers who remain unemployed as a result of the pandemic while simultaneously supporting our businesses and employers to enable them to survive the upcoming off season. Providing high-quality education to our schoolchildren is also a continuing top priority. Medical science must be our guide as we continue to seek ways to restore the full scope of our economy and the functioning of our educational systems while protecting the health of the public.
1. Supporting our unemployment system with necessary staffing and financial resources to provide prompt benefits for those left without work due to the pandemic.

2. Develop alternative or additional support systems for the unemployed who may have exhausted their entitlement, such that they can continue to provide for their families and avoid the threat of eviction, loss of medical care, loss of vital utilities, and crippling financial obligations when COVID has passed.

3. Develop a program of grants and loans (with federal assistance) to support our businesses that have been heavily impacted by the economic downturn caused by the virus.
I would support and advocate for all community organizations and groups that have formed to combat the social impact of the virus, such as by providing assistance to the most vulnerable and offering support to our schools and teachers.
I would work with fellow legislators and the administration and department heads to develop a regional plan to support individuals and local businesses most impacted by the pandemic. A regional approach reflects the common interests of closely-associated communities and will engage those with knowledge and experience to meet the needs.
