Right now the biggest challenge is recovering from the current pandemic and preparing for the possible second wave. All corners of this state felt the impact of COVID19 and will continue to feel its effect for years to come. The response to the pandemic shined a light on areas of weakness that need to be addressed. Access to broadband internet access for all students, a flawed unemployment system, need for more healthcare options for self and unemployed people and a lack of resources for small businesses. We can do better and I know we will next time.
Hungry children- making free breakfast and lunch available to all students Revenue sharing- making sure that the State of Maine fulfills its promise to share revenue profits with cities and towns. Sex trafficking victims- create laws that do not re-victimize victims of sex trafficking.
I am currently on the Westbrook School Committee, a role I will continue in and continue to advocate for students and families in my district. I am also a part of the One Westbrook Committee that is a diverse cross-functional group that works to make sure our community is inclusive. We have also just started having community conversations with city leaders to discuss our next steps and healing in the wake of the recent death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement.
I am a small business owner so I know the impact this pandemic has had on myself and my family. I am part of our Downtown Coalition and will work with other small business in my community to help rebuild. I hope that we will be able to share our success with other communities
