State Senate District
Maine has done a great job of keeping COVID 19 infections and deaths at very low numbers. Keeping our citizens healthy will be a challenge until an effective vaccine has been developed and enough people have been vaccinated. Keeping our public schools open so students can learn and parents can work is challenging in some counties of the state. Additionally, while some businesses have thrived during the pandemic, we need to find ways to support those businesses that have not done well or have closed their doors, in a way that doesn't burden Maine taxpayers. We want our economy to come back strong.
When elected, I will work on property tax relief by restoring Maine's revenue sharing formula, support our public schools so all students receive a high quality education to be successful in life, and champion affordable services for our senior citizens so they can age in place with dignity.
I will hold listening sessions in each town of our district on a regular basis. Inviting constituents to discuss what is happening in our state capital will engage our community members and provide opportunities for their voices to be heard. Keeping constituents informed about the schedules and encouraging constituents to provide testimony during bill hearings is another way to encourage civic engagement. As a state Senator, I will visit schools to speak about the Maine Senate and the legislative process and help high school seniors register to vote. I look forward to welcoming students and their parents to visit the Legislature while it is in session.
It is important to hear from residents, business owners, and town officials about what they need for economic recovery. I will help make sure that businesses and municipal economic development departments know about and access state and federal funds designated for economic recovery. Supporting decisions made at the local level that are keeping our residents healthy and safe from the corona virus is important, too.
