Winslow Township Ward 3 - Township Committee

COMMITTEE: The Winslow Township Committee is the governing body of the township and is composed of elected officials. They establish laws, ordinances, and policies for the township. Committee members are elected to three-year terms in office on a staggered basis in a three-year cycle, with one seat coming up for election from each of the four wards in two consecutive years as part of the November general election and no ward seats up for vote in the third year of the cycle.

Biographical Information

What do you consider the top priority(ies) in the next municipal budget and how will you minimize impact on taxpayers? Please discuss no more than three priorities.

What do you consider the most important issue facing the municipality today and how would you address the issue if elected to office?

What is your view on consolidation of municipalities and/or sharing services with neighboring municipalities?

What would you to to promote economic development and attract businesses to the municipality?

We will continue partnering with the School District by promoting the accomplishments and educational strengths. We will continue educating the public about the successes of maintaining a quality educational system in Winslow Township.

Public safety and customer service are always a very high priority. We will be working on Community Policing projects with the Police Department in order to address any concerns, but also address quality of life and resident priorities as well. We will continue evaluating our customer service/community relationships of our departments and how they relate to our customers.

A high priority is also the overall health of our economy in the Township working with new and existing businesses.
Economic stability for residents without jeopardizing quality of life/services. Without economic stability, all else begins to deteriorate and will have a rippling effect. This was a priority before the coronavirus pandemic, but even more so now as we try to remain especially vigilant on spending. We remain cognizant to adopt a budget at the lowest possible tax increase. While keeping control of the Municipal Tax, we also work very hard in maintaining our “AA3” bond rating. Of course we are restrained by a 2% cap, and again we must be very creative in 2020/2021 to generate additional revenues. We will continue aggressive grant writing, job sharing, shared services, and working more efficiently without sacrificing services.
Shared services is vital to build bridges with local municipalities, and to ensure everyone is doing their part to learn best practices, and to think innovatively. It is prudent to share equipment that is only used sporadically or seasonally. A healthy municipality must learn new ways to do things better and more efficiently and with less expense on taxpayers.

Consolidation of municipalities can be highly beneficial for not only the residents, but also for staffing concerns/budget reasons. Smaller towns may struggle to provide certain services that are inherently easier for those that are of a larger size. Consolidation is a unique concept that should not be overlooked in areas where this would benefit all of those involved.
Winslow Township has spent the last 10 years working on a hearty, multi-pronged economic development plan that has been greatly successful, and one that I have worked hard to help achieve. The plan keeps our business community in mind while looking at the big picture to balance this with residential needs.

Winslow Township’s economic development campaign “We Have the Connections” has seen a wealth of growth along the Cross Keys Road corridor, and now through rezoning along Route 73. The Township maintains a GIS mapping of local businesses which is included in the Township mobile app to put residents in touch with the businesses. We have several different programs to assist businesses that are looking to bring their business to the area.
