To stand proudly and strongly against the outdated Republican philosophy of radically limited government, by supporting affordable health care for all, increased funding for public education at all levels, the strongest possible environmental protections, and by taking measures to reduce income inequality, including robust public services. Our government's failure over the last thirty years to aggressively address these four major issues has deeply impoverished our society, reduced our quality of life, and contributed to the crippling social divisions we are now experiencing. The COVID crisis has revealed the extent of these problems, which we have papered over for several generations.
We have no choice but to drastically reduce government spending in the short run, focusing government resources on pandemic control measures and emergency relief to people out of work. But we will have to increase taxes on those who can afford to pay more when the crisis abates so that we can address the social problems -- of unaffordable health care and inequality -- that the pandemic has exposed. In Colorado, this means we must repeal the Gallagher and TABOR amendments to allow the state to modernize and rationalize its systems of taxation. In addition, the Colorado income tax should no longer be pegged to the federal income tax rate, but should be set at levels to meet Colorado's needs.

The 58th District is natural resource rich. Our economy is based on natural resources: water, lumber, mining, farming, and tourism. Protecting and utilizing these resources is my priority.
I will support legislation that protects small businesses and enhances opportunities to open our economy as quickly as possible.
