What is your number one priority and why?

How will you address the economic crisis that has resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic?

Background As a Special Education teacher at Pueblo East, I saw first hand the lack of investment that we're putting into the next generation. I ran in 2018 to put families first in Denver, and I will continue to do just that if I am re-elected.

My number one priority is investing in the next generation. We need to be doing more for our children and our public education system. I came to Denver to ensure that we put families first in our legislation, and the COVID-19 pandemic has only made it more clear that our first priority must be securing a better future for our children and grandchildren. As a Rep. I've worked hard on this goal; I'm so proud to have sponsored bills that create a ninth-grade success program, a scholarship program for medical students who commit to working in rural areas of Colorado, and a future educators program to fund the next generation of educators. If re-elected I will continue to work tirelessly on behalf of the families of House District 47.
It's important that we promote the growth of small-business and the safety of small-business owners and workers throughout Colorado. That's why I am a strong supporter of legislation to provide grants and loans to small-businesses, provide relief to agricultural workers like our farmers and ranchers in Southern Colorado, and provide cash-assistance to renters and homeowners. We absolutely must support our small-businesses while protecting public health. We also need to consider the less-fortunate among us and those who were already dealing with personal issues when we respond to this economic crisis. I also support giving more assistance to food banks, and increase funding for mental health and substance abuse programs. If we do not take a broad view of our COVID-19 response and fail to address each community, we risk leaving vulnerable Coloradans in the lurch.
