The U.S. government’s response has been too much, and I believe has had a negative impact. Countries like Sweden did not impose lockdowns, mandatory quarantines, etc., and allowed their citizens to deem what was a correct response for themselves. Sweden did see an initial spike in cases and deaths just like every other country, but they are in a far better spot than we are now, and they did not have to crush their own economy to achieve that.
1) First I will propose that we address systemic issues in our police force, by proposing the following: End Qualified Immunity, End the War on Drugs, End No Knock Raids, End Victimless Crime Laws, End Mandatory Minimum Sentencing, and End the Militarization of Police. 2) I will propose a reduction of the size and scope of our military. We are meddling too much in unnecessary endeavors overseas, and that money could be much better spent here at home. 3) I will propose removing federal regulations on guns, and encouraging nationwide concealed carry laws. Here in New Jersey, it is just about impossible to obtain a concealed carry permit. I don't feel nearly as safe now as I would knowing that responsible gun owners were around me were carrying weapons to deter a potential threat, should one arise.
Get the government out of the way, and let the free market function. Simple as that.
The more that our government meddles with healthcare, the more unaffordable it becomes. I believe the government needs to be less involved, especially in setting prices and messing with the content of the plans, and let the market function.
I believe that an ID should be required when people go to vote. We also need to make sure that our voting machines cannot be hacked. Efforts at this year's Defcon convention in Las Vegas showed that the machines could be hacked, which is unsettling to say the least. I look forward to a day when we're able to cast our vote securely and confidently on a new system, likely using blockchain technology.
