Remove politics from women’s healthcare decisions and fund family planning services in the state. Fund mental health services. Create funding for pre-K and paid family leave. Enforce penalties for companies that skirt federal and state laws regarding gender pay inequities.
Iowa should not be finding ways to criminalize abortions by instituting unconstitutional laws at the expense of taxpayers. Iowa should pass laws that remove the profiteers from our healthcare services. MCOs are terrible for Iowans and the doctors and nurses that care for us. Medicare for all would level the playing field for healthcare consumers and for negotiating prescription drug costs. Short of that, a public option to sign up for Medicare would benefit Iowans.
Corporate tax breaks and tax cuts represent hundreds of millions of dollars lost each year. That money could be used for roads, broadband access, schools and more. Factory farms also receive preferential treatment at the expense of family farms and water and soil quality. Rewarding family farms to responsibly steward their land would save taxpayer money and be a step in the right direction on fighting climate change.
Enacting common sense gun laws across the state is long overdue. Responsible gun owners agree. Funding mental health services to address depression, domestic violence, and suicide is also needed.
Decriminalizing cannabis is a good start on the path to racial and social justice as BIPOC are prosecuted at far higher rates than whites despite similar usage patterns.
