I will support women’s rights to abortion and equal pay for equal work. I would support the reversal of the privatization of Medicaid so women can have access to resources provided by planned parenthood.
The state should take advantage of federal healthcare opportunities that benefit our citizenry and not be driven by political agendas. We need healthcare for everyone and the federal government needs to provide that.
I would support the revision of our tax policies and also income inequality. We have too much wealth in too few hands and we continue to make decisions based on Reagan’s notion, now known to be ineffective, of trickle down economics. We need a minimum wage that allows people to live a decent standard of living.
At the minimum I think we should reject the current amendment subject to passage by a new legislature, that makes gun policies unconstitutional until proven otherwise. Too much access to guns and laws that are too weak are contributors to our unacceptable rate of death by guns in this state of 1 every 33 hours. We need to take a hard look at all of our gun rights in this state and revise them for greater protection of our citizenry. We also need to look at data and be driven by it. The politics surrounding this issue clouds judgements.
I do not favor defunding the police. I do favor re-allocation of dollars to training and resources that support our officers. We need a new attitude about law enforcement. I want our officers protected but we need to return to the mind set of "peace officers" and move away from a rambo style military approach. Also racial sensitivity needs to be integral to officer training if we are to achieve social justice.
