Having affordable healthcare and mental healthcare is incredibly important to Iowans especially during these pandemic times. We need to hold accountable the manage healthcare companies that are currently denying services to Iowans and slow paying the small service providers. Secondly, climate change is already negatively impacting our state and it will get worse with every decade unless we commit to making hard choices. This is the biggest challenge our next generation will face and we need to decide if we are willing to address it head on or will we ignore the problem until it is too late. I will listen to scientists and I will fight for our kids and grandkids to have clean air to breathe and clean water to drink.
We need to invest in Iowa’s resources. Invest in our people, our kids, and our land. I believe if we support our public schools so they are the once again the best in the nation then new businesses will want to move to our state because they know they can find a well-trained and educated employment base. In addition, their employees’ children will get the benefit of a great education. Finally, if we invest in more wind and solar energy forms, we could be a leader in this technology and not have to rely on polluting fossil fuels to drive our economy. This is how I would propose we grow our economy.
I will listen to African-American leaders and people of color for recommendations regarding our best strategies for bringing greater social justice to our communities. This is a very broad topic. One starting place would be work to bring about sentencing and bail reforms. So often the sentence you receive is reflected by the amount of money you have to send on lawyers or the ability to pay bail. We can do better.
First, I would hold accountable the manage healthcare companies that are currently denying services to Iowans and slow paying the small service providers. In the long term I would be very open to having a system that would provide healthcare access for all.
Iowa already has a very secure system of voting, but I am dismayed by the additional restrictions on our election placed on the election process in recent legislative cycles. Every time, we limit days and hours of voting, close voting sites and add needless red tape to the process of voting we are making it more difficult for people to vote. I support having the Iowa Secretary of State provide absentee ballot requests to all registered voters for each general election and ultimately would like to see 100% vote by mail implemented in the state.
