As an educator, I experienced the quick turn-around education took when schools were forced to go virtual. Teachers had little time to prepare virtual lessons or teach their students the programs they would soon be using on a daily basis. The Health Crisis forced schools to update their contingency plans with protocols and procedures. Moving forward it is important for our schools to be prepared for non-traditional education and provide training for staff. When educators have in-person teaching with students, they will include preparations for using the applications in a virtual learning setting. Educators will also develop curriculum to teach content in synchronous (learning together) and asynchronous (learning on their own) methods. The Health Crisis will continue to shape education in our future giving more flexibility to the way instruction and content can be delivered. Districts will shape their plans and curriculum to rise to the needs of their students and community.
Fiscal responsibility is very important attribute and it is one I take seriously. As an Educator and past BOE Member, I want the highest level of education and opportunities for the students in Manville. Our town has struggled with budget cuts and we just fought to get funds back to our students. Because of Covid, some funds were taken back. This impacted areas where the district wanted to improve academically. My short-term plan is to work with the Administration and BOE team to carefully analyze our needs and make the best decisions that have the least amount of impact on our students. For the long-term, we cannot expect to get money from the state so we need to make smart financial plans that do not relay on the taxpayer. Using our long-range plan, I will work cooperatively to ensure we have the programs and staff we need to provide the highest standards of education for our students. As a parent and educator I will continue to fight for the funding Manville deserves.
