Bellmawr School District {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

An elected school board member serves a three-year term. The school board represents the concerns of citizens, taxpayers and parents to the school administrators, and represents the needs of the students and school district to citizens, taxpayers and parents. The school board does not operate the district on a day-to-day basis; that is the job of the superintendent (the district’s chief executive). Rather, the school board sets policies, goals and objectives for the district, and holds the superintendent responsible for implementing those policies and goals. I am seeking election as a Member of the Board of Education in the Bellmawr School District because the position plays to my foremost passions - children and their education & development. As both a mother and experienced educator of nearly twenty years, I believe as a school board member I can harness and blend these strengths, offering insight across the educational spectrum.
As someone that has, and is continuing to experience the technical ‘hiccups’ encountered as a teacher and a parent in navigating the new virtual learning landscape, one of my top budget priorities is appropriate allocation of funds in IT. Currently, and moving forward virtual learning is going to continue to be a crucial component in a child’s education, so organizational & infrastructure planning on this aspect should focus on both continency & future- proofing strategies. Universally, these types of initiatives save taxpayers money over time.
While test cores are important and provide a certain level of metrics, I have always placed a greater onus on the significance of developing a child’s social/emotional development. By targeting these areas, children are better conditioned to build & foster relationships with their peers, where studies, as well as my own experience have found this often leads to better academic performance.
I think we can all agree this past school year, and continuing into the new academic year has presented the Governor, the State Legislature, the New Jersey Department of Education, and local districts with unprecedented challenges due to the pandemic. Whether or not I believe the current formula for the appropriation of state aid to local districts is effective in the present learning environment is a question that I will be able to answer with much more confidence later in the school year once the data is available in which to critique.
Currently, I am serving my second year as the Chairwoman of the ‘Health & Safety Committee’ for the Barrington School District. This experience has taught me that the responsibility of the students’ safety and security is one that should be recognized & shared among all of the community stakeholders, including the school district, local EMS & OEM, as well as the residents. Together, synergies are created leading to a strategy that continues to identity any issues or threats, develop and test mitigation & prevention policies/procedures, with the maintaining of open lines of communication among all parties.
