Lawnside School District {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

An elected school board member serves a three-year term. The school board represents the concerns of citizens, taxpayers and parents to the school administrators, and represents the needs of the students and school district to citizens, taxpayers and parents. The school board does not operate the district on a day-to-day basis; that is the job of the superintendent (the district’s chief executive). Rather, the school board sets policies, goals and objectives for the district, and holds the superintendent responsible for implementing those policies and goals. I am running to retain my position on the Board of Education because I believe I bring a young, informed and passionate view to the Lawnside School District. In the 8 months that I have been able to sit on the Board I have gotten to know and understand the needs of this district. I can now begin to make the necessary changes to better our district and make sure our students are the very best because I understand how things operate.
The most important thing to me is making sure our school has all the necessary materials that are needed for a productive school year. Updated books, tablets, writing utensils etc. whatever is needed to assure that the student has the best possible learning experience is what matters to me.
I think that test scores are helpful data HOWEVER test scores alone should not define who our students are or the resources and opportunities that they receive. When looking at how our students are ranked amongst their peers we should take into account the whole picture not just one aspect. I do think there are things we can do to improve our test scores. Making sure we understand every child's learning style, finding ways to offer more support especially now during remote learning and taking the necessary steps to ensure students understand the material they are learning but also know how to strategically take the test.
I think there is always space for us to improve when it relates to budgets and state aid. Making wise monetary decisions while also being willing to spend the extra money when necessary is an important part of a financially healthy district.
I think especially now we have to make sure our school is COVID free and that we are making the best decisions during this pandemic. Staying up to date with COVID precautions and having the best technology in place to handle the pandemic is important to providing a safe space during a time like this.
