Gloucester City School District {_getChooseLabel(this.selections.length)}

An elected school board member serves a three-year term. The school board represents the concerns of citizens, taxpayers and parents to the school administrators, and represents the needs of the students and school district to citizens, taxpayers and parents. The school board does not operate the district on a day-to-day basis; that is the job of the superintendent (the district’s chief executive). Rather, the school board sets policies, goals and objectives for the district, and holds the superintendent responsible for implementing those policies and goals. I am running for the Board of Education simply because I believe I can help. I have no political aspirations or agenda. During my career I developed a unique ability to determine which issues were important, analyze the issues and develop solutions which were many times considered “out of the box”. These solutions contributed heavily to the success of the businesses I was working with. I am a firm believer that many segments of government can benefit from sound business practices. I also am very adept at conducting research to analyze issues and develop solutions. I believe this could be of benefit to my role on the board.
Overall my top priority would be to provide the highest level of education and overall school experience for the students of Gloucester City while maintaining a fair expense for our taxpayers. I believe a complete school experience including sports and social interaction is critical to developing well rounded individuals.
I am a strong proponent of maintaining standardized test scores. The scores help measure our student achievement to other communities throughout our area potentially illuminating areas in which our instruction and learning are excelling or in need of improvement. It is critical that we have systems in place to ensure that we provide training of the highest quality to our staff and continue to attract young professionals of the absolute greatest caliber. I feel that a level of competition is critical to a complete education. Board of Educations can help create a culture of high expectations , professional actions and dedication to a singleness of purpose.
As a member of the board I would offer my assistance to works towards maximizing any Categorical Aid or additional funding available from the state or federal government. I am interested in learning more about the budget process and how the Local Cost Share is determined. I have always wondered how the % of At Risk Students and how the high % of rental residents effect overall costs and funding. I would like to see Gloucester City improve and enhance the technical training program; I believe many of our students can benefit from developing trade skills towards a strong career path. I am aware of the need to continue to advocate for our district’s fair portion of State Aid to compensate for the tax constraints within our great community.
I believe that the city and school currently provide an extremely high level of school security. I firmly believe in a strong police and security presence. I also feel that our teachers and administrators create a great environment of trust and reliability with the student body which is critical for a safe environment. I look forward to exploring any Security Aid that may be available and researching what processes other school districts are utilizing and staying relevant to all new technology.
