My number one priority is to protect our water in the San Luis Valley. We must thwart any attempt by urban areas to remove water for their own use, and we must find ways to use our water in a sustainable fashion in order to restore the aquifer, protect our agricultural way of life, and protect the environment. I will accomplish this by working with the water management sub-districts and the RGWCD to advocate for the use of Regenerative Agriculture to reduce water usage, improve our soils and sequester Carbon. I will also work to expose the misinformation used by developers to convince people that removing another 20,000 acre/ft. of water per year will benefit them. I want to help create green jobs here that utilize resources and products that we already have available to us. Supporting tourism that brings like minded folks here to enjoy our wilderness, dark skies, clean air, and wildlife. I want to restore faith and trust in government through transparency and accountability.
The County must operate within a balanced budget. That budget however must include long term infrastructural needs that have been overlooked for so long. I do not believe that the County should be giving away Sales Tax grant money (except in exceptional cases of need) until basic services are provided to residents. I would like to see the County work with private entities to jump start needed projects like a recycling program.
