What are your top priorities for the county and how will you address them?

What factors will guide your financial and budgeting decisions?

Background My background is a fourth generation Routt native rancher. Accountant by trade. Have served the county since 2001 as Routt County Commissioner. Served through the 9/11 national emergency, the 2008 Great Recession and serving during the Covid Pandemic. Will continue to work for the best of Routt.

My top priority will be to get back to some sort of AFTER Covid 19 Normal. We are now pushing seven months of confusion, worry and fear. We must get to some sort of normal while respecting the concern of a relapse into the throws of pandemic. If we don't have a vaccine to take us out of this health issue we as society have to do a better job of living with the pandemic. At the Commissioner level we at the county have opted into allowing and encouraging remote working and have fostered new and different avenues to provide governmental services. My long term priority will be to continue to make Routt County a great and safe place to raise a family and live life. We will do that by protecting the values that make it great. Open working landscapes, void of sprawl, that provide adequate safety and ample working opportunities. Our county doesn't lack in basic needs and provides all an opportunity to succeed, but at the same time does not reward abuse of resources and greed.
My number one priority has always been to hire good people, pay them well and provide them with quality equipment and a quality work place. With those inputs you will achieve quality performance. I am a fiscal conservative and respect the hard earned dollars that are given to the county for the provision of governmental services. I believe there is a balance of services needed, and government should not be providing the best of services, but rather providing services that are needed at a quality level. The community and citizens should determine the level of service by how much tax dollars they want to invest into those services. There are always some mandated services. Those of course must be provided, but the level of service is discretionary. I also believe that government should only be doing services that are needed focusing on those not readily available by private profit making enterprises. The gap should therefore be filled by private enterprises fueling the economy.
