Healthcare, workforce housing, transportation, childcare, education, and climate are all perennial issues in Eagle County, as they are elsewhere. And in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic, we see more clearly the foundational flaws in our economy that create these issues. At the local level we continually address these issues directly, but we are also planning our Covid recovery through a lens of equity and efficiency. We must envision an economy that provides opportunity for everyone to use their talents to create social and economic value for us all. Where we find creative local strategies, we must be bold in implementing them. Where we find that vision constrained by larger (state & federal) policies, we must use our power to advocate to change those policies.
Organizationally we are working on our service delivery priorities (what does our community need most from us), so we can target our Covid-shrunken budget to those priorities. Concurrently we are working on our comprehensive plan to help us understand what we, as a community, want to become. Though this pandemic has exposed the great cracks in our national foundation, it now allows us to reconsider how we want to rebuild that foundation and then get to rebuilding! We have an opportunity to learn from our past in order to create a better, more equitable future.
