Being both a small business owner and a Realtor has allowed me to gain first hand knowledge of the communities of the 37th district and the challenges they face In my community I helped collaborate in the formation .of the Lunenburg business Assoc. of which I am a member; I also serve as secretary to our Republican committee and am an appointed member of Lunenburg Economic Development committee. I fought for change in legislation and continue to advocate on behalf of ratepayers.
Protecting chapter 70 which is the Commonwealth's program for ensuring adequate and equitable K-12 education funding; Ch 70 is the major program of state aid to public elementary and secondary schools.
Keeping essential electric service affordable; electricity is a basic necessity. The growing gap between household income and ability to pay higher electric bills threatens the ability of households to pay other necessities.
A freeze on spending other than funds to maintain operations at statewide departments, boards, commissions and institutions.
Lower appropriation levels - this would address the need for continuing government operations while adjusting for lower tax revenue collections.
I support the Housing Choice bill filed by Governor Baker (H3507) which eliminates barriers to building new housing and land use
I also support Accessory dwelling units (Senate bill S788) which would make it easier for municipalities to allow accessory dwelling unitis within the main structure of a single family dwelling as long as it meets certain requirements so residents may adapt their homes by adding a unit for relatives or to rent.
MassDot in February of this year awarded 4.2M in federal & state funds to projects that will provide workforce transportation service. I would support the continuation of the workforce transportation program launched by MassDOT rail & transit division that provides funding for projects aimed at meeting workforce transportation needs around the Commonwealth. The employers in the district need reilable transportation for their workforce.
I am grateful to have been elected on June 2nd as State Representative in the 37th Middlesex district by 74% of the voters; I have lived the American Dream, persevering in the face of great odds, in this very district. In 2001, I immigrated to Acton from Brazil at age fourteen. I have a BA in Political Science from UMass Amherst, and have been a public servant for the past six years working as Senator Jamie Eldridge’s District Director. I've hit the ground running to stand up for and serve all
1) Climate change is the existential crisis affecting our communities, the Commonwealth, and the world. I will push for bold solutions such as 100% Renewable Energy.
2) I am indebted to the amazing Massachusetts public schools system. I will work to fully fund the Student Opportunity Act, Universal Pre-Kindergarten, the CHERISH Act, and Debt-Free College for all Massachusetts students. I also support increased funding for vocational schools.
I believe that in order to restore our Commonwealth and balance the budget, lawmakers should close corporate loopholes and end corporate tax breaks. I believe that it is important that we support our communities by raising revenue on the largest companies to best manage the unexpected additional expenses due to the COVID-19 ramifications.
Housing is not only an issue of educational opportunity, it is an issue of racial justice. This issue has directly affected my life as someone who has rented for twenty years. I support reforms including housing stability protections to prevent 20,000 COVID-19-related evictions, rent control, the real estate transfer fee to fund affordable housing, ID access for people experiencing homelessness, and the right to legal counsel.
I believe that we need to dramatically increase our investment in public transportation and its infrastructure. I am committed to the communities that rely on the services of public transportation. Initiatives including reducing MBTA fares, expanding RTA service, building more rail trails, and improving our commuter rail service are of high importance to me. I believe that these initiatives can be supported by funding from the Millionaires tax, which I will work hard to pass.
