I began working when I was 14 years old and have worked in the public ever since. This experience allows me to relate to people and understand people from all walks of life. I care about people. I believe that God is in control and that through this position, His will can be done. I am a father and a husband and value family second only to God. I am compassionate, yet not afraid to be stern. Your Circuit Judge must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation, must not be violent, must be gentle, not quarrelsome, must be well respected and must have integrity, and common sense. Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you that these traits describe me. I believe in hard work, and I believe in fulfilling your duty to God and Country.
Collecting restitution for victims. It can be addressed by keeping probationers from completing probation without paying restitution, setting review hearings, and holding criminals accountable for the restitution they owe.
Being a judge requires you to separate the judicial duties from the elected official. As an elected official, you are expected to be available to the public, and you can be. However, as a judge you cannot base decisions on what is expected of an elected official. Judge cannot always be available to the public. The balancing act is to be available and supportive when you can such as fundraisers, community service, and being active in the community, but not allowing individuals to influence your rulings. You must rule as the facts and the law dictate, not how the electorate wants you to.
The law is blind. It shouldn't matter what your background is in a courtroom. Justice is available to everyone. You have to take the cases as they come to you and treat each individual equally. You have to ensure that someone's rights aren't violated because of their background. Example, jurors shouldn't be struck on the basis of race. Micah 6:8 seek justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your Lord. Treat everyone in this manner and equality shouldn't be an issue.
Yes. Inform the parties of the conflict, and recuse myself to allow the other judges to handle the case.
