To address issues with revenue we need to first stop spending money and tackle issues such as pension reform. Secondly, we need to stop borrowing money. Loans must be repaid, and they are repaid with interest. Having massive amounts of debt make it that much more difficult to pay for other services. Thirdly, the response to the COVID-19 pandemic has killed our economy and we will feel the effects in the coming years. We need to reopen our economy and let people get back to work. Otherwise the politicians in Springfield are going try to create even more taxes to cover for their failures.
No. The fair tax is simply not fair at all. The chief argument for this tax is that the rich will pay their fair share but if they are already not paying their share of the current flat tax due to tax loopholes and tax havens in other countries what makes anyone think they would not continue to do that same thing under a new tax scheme. All the fair tax amendment really does is allow the politicians in Springfield to raise taxes on the middle class and the poor whenever they feel like it.
I support making the redistricting process non[artisan and placed in the hands of an independent committee. Allowing politicians, who directly benefit from redistricting, make those changes is just asking for corruption and gerrymandering.
I fully support for making voting easier for everyone so I would support universal vote by mail for Illinois. I would however, want to make sure that there are plenty of protections against voter fraud, lost ballots, etc.
