Kelly M. Cassidy
How would you address Illinois' revenue shortfall, especially in light of COVID-19, including plans to raise more revenue and how to prioritize spending?
Do you support the Fair Tax (graduated rate income tax) amendment?
What measures will you support for equitable redistricting?
What is your position on vote by mail and would you support a universal vote by mail for Illinois?
Passage of the fair tax amendment is critical to getting Illinois on a sound financial footing. We have spent years cutting budgets trying to fill the gap and now during COVID, we’ve seen the human impact of the hollowing out of our state government and social service safety nets. We have to ensure that the resources we will need to not only finish digging out of the hole created by the budget standoff but to restore our economy after the devastation of COVID are available. This is not the time to cut services or programs that keep people working, building, and thriving.
Yes. I have been a longtime advocate, cosponsored the amendment, and am working hard to pass it.
I have spoken out repeatedly about the importance of ending “winner take all” mapmaking. I coauthored an op-ed with a bipartisan and bicameral group of legislators calling for an interstate compact to address the concerns raised over the national impact of only blue states adopting fair maps as well.
I am a supporter of universal vote by mail and wish that the bill we passed for this election cycle actually went all the way to sending a ballot to every registered voter as the multiple mailings and processes have been confusing to voters.
