How should tax revenue from the sale of recreational marijuana be allocated?

What is your position on the proposed merger of the Recorder of Deeds office with the County Clerk's office?

What changes do you propose for the upcoming budget year to ensure that services are maintained for DuPage County residents?

Regarding the revenue from marijuana sales, rather than allocate specific revenue sources to be assigned to specific county services and expenditures, I'd suggest it go to general funds. Then through a thoughtful and prudent budget process it can be determined how county revenues should best be managed. The additional funds will help alleviate shortfalls where it is most needed and would reduce the need to make cuts in areas such as mental health and addiction services.
After doing some research on the topic of merging the Recorder of Deeds Office with the County Clerk’s Office, I have learned that over 87 percent of the counties in Illinois have made such a move. In fact, many of those who once held the position of Recorder support the move to consolidation. The position of Recorder of Deeds, while much needed prior to the digital age, is largely historical and now can be readily managed by the County Clerk’s office, promising to save taxpayers money.
For changes regarding the upcoming budget year, I would advocate for modifications in the budget process so that it is more transparent. The process should include workshops that allow county board members and the public to hear department heads make the case for fully funding their budgets. Open discussion and debate is very important and should not be shortchanged, as it brings understanding and accountability to the process. It will allow the public to weigh in and will better inform the board so they can allocate funds in a way that best serves the residents of DuPage.
