1. Funding for public education and infrastructure: I believe that in the State of Missouri the budget is being manipulated so that funds intended for bettering our children’s education and maintaining safe roadways for rural Missouri are being used incorrectly. 2. Citizens’ rights: I believe in the Constitution. The citizens of the State of Missouri deserve to keep their rights. I do not believe that the government should encroach on citizens’ rights in any form. We have the right to Free Speech and the right to keep and bear arms. 3. Unions: I am a proud union member! I support unions because they provide a decent living for my family and many others in our area. Unions have been supporting labor laws for over 100 years that provide the American worker with things like the weekend, health benefits, the 40-hour work week, and better working conditions. These are the values that I believe in and support.
First, I would approach the challenges our State faces in regards to the funding for public education and infrastructure. I will research the current budget and find the inappropriate use of funds surrounding these issues and see that they are redirected in an appropriate manner. There is more funding for public education than the State of Missouri is using at the present time. I will work to make the changes needed to represent the People of District 53 and their tax dollars. Secondly, in regards to citizens' rights; It is simple. Our rights are clearly written in the Constitution and should not be changed or infringed upon. If elected, I will work to protect our rights during my term. I will do my part to see that the already voted down Right to Work bill does not come back into and pass through the house. I will work to represent the citizens of District 53 and their values.

As a retired educator and school counselor I am passionate about our public schools. I feel very adamant that we are not fully funding the educational formula for our schools sufficiently. Years ago we voted to allow gambling in our state with the promise that the money would be spent to enhance our public schools. This money did and does go toward our schools but our state legislature has used that money to replace their funding responsibility. So essentially the money that was meant to enhance our public schools was used to replace the state funding. I believe that more people need to know this and it needs to be changed to what we, as voters, were promised. Our teachers and schools are not being funded as they should be and our teachers are among the lowest paid in the country.
I am tired of our elected officials being tied to their party and their own agenda. I do not need the position of representative to gain money, fame or a pension as others honestly do. Being able to make decisions based on the residents of Lafayette, Johnson and Jackson county would be my first and foremost priority in facing any challenge in our state. I would constantly seek out the desires and needs of my neighbors and constituents and make decisions based on those desires. I would be an actual representative and not an agent for my own desires. I am a Democrat but believe that both Democrats and Republicans have good and bad ideas. They need to work together for the good of Missouri and not walk a line dictated by a national affiliation. We in Missouri are the only ones who know what is good and needed for us in Missouri. I would seek out advice from my constituents on all decisions made.
