Position/philosophy statement I strongly believe that to be an effective legislator, it is imperative that you remain laser-focused on the needs of the people !
My entire career has been focused on service. First on children, as a classroom teacher and later working with teachers, as a school administrator and later serving and supervising principals, as an assistant superintendent. I became involved in politics after retirement. I have devoted almost sixteen years serving, on the Rockingham County Board of Education. I believe this experience has prepared me to seek office on the state level.
If elected to serve District 65 in the NC House, I would focus on legislation that would give school districts more autonomy to make decisions related to the needs of their students, I would also focus on poverty in our state and the need for insurance coverage! Everything and anything that will enhance the lives of our citizens will interest me.
The impact of the elimination of these incentives have caused an economic strain on many industries and the governing bodies of our counties in our state. Solar energy as well as other ways to address the environment should be one of legislators major focuses.
Passing Medicaid Expansion legislation would be a start. Over 4,000 citizens in my county, along with thousands of North Carolinians need Insurance coverage. In addition, many people have lost jobs and insurance. If insurance coverage was not attached to jobs, this would avoid some of the problems we are facing now. I propose we begin with passing Medicaid Expansion and then find ways to provide insurance to all citizens!
I propose a commission that is composed of environmentalists as well as people from the affected areas to monitor and report on our water supply and air quality.
Redistricting remains an issue . In some countries, like mine it is almost impossible for a candidate of a different party than the majority, to win any seat. I believe a nonpartisan, independent group would ensure a fairer outcome and encourage more people to seek office.
I am an educator by profession and therefore I am especially affected by the report of guns in schools. We must find a solution that will keep our kids and adults safe while ensuring the right-to-carry is done safely. We must stop mass shootings by putting laws in place that will eliminate the violence.
