With the Western Campus of NC School of Science and Mathematics coming to our community I believe that the largest issue will be housing, but even more than that we need to expand our infrastructure (water, sewer, etc.) to greater parts of the county before we can adequately address the housing crisis we are currently seeing in our community.
The County Commission can do so much when it comes to local education; The Commission can directly provide additional supplements to teachers, and on top of that can provide additional monies for technology and office supplies-- No teacher or administrator should ever have to worry about having the resources to do their job effectively.
Continue to strengthen relationships that we have currently through BDI, WPCOG, Burke County Chamber of Commerce, and look for ways to grow outside of just downtown Morganton and look at other communities across our county, while also looking at innovative ways to grow current businesses.
We have a desperate need for additional social workers in our DSS, we also need to look at the pay they're receiving and make sure it's on-par with the current market because we not only want people to come to our county to visit, or work, but to also encourage them to live and invest in our community.
