NC SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE DISTRICT 01 SEAT 02
The NC Superior Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction in North Carolina. It hears all felony cases and certain misdemeanor cases. In civil matters, superior courts hear civil disputes involving amounts over $25,000. Judges are elected for 8 year terms. The Superior Courts are divided into 5 divisions and further into 48 districts. There are 109 regular Superior Court judges under current state law, in addition to "special judges" who are appointed by the Governor, not elected. Judges rotate from district to district within their division every six months in order to avoid the danger of corruption or favoritism. Legislation in 2023 numerically realigned/renumbered the Superior Court and other court districts to align with the Prosecutorial districts.

Current Occupation
Chief District Court Judge
I've been practicing law in this district for 36 years. I was an assistant district attorney for 13 years, prosecuting serious violent felonies. After leaving the district attorney's office I became a partner in a large law firm litigating civil and criminal cases. I've been a District Court Judge for 16 years and the Chief District Court Judge for the last 2 years.
As a judge I must be fair and impartial, follow the law and constitutions of North Carolina and the United States in every case. The party platform itself does not play a part in my decision making however I agree with all of the positions of Article III (Justice) in the NC Republican Party Platform.
The biggest obstacle the NC criminal justice system faces today is that we are ill-equipped to adequately adjudicate all of the people who come through the court system that are suffering from substance use disorders and mental health disorders.
I think I'm one of the most experienced and well qualified candidates who has ever sought a seat as a Superior Court Judge, in the First Judicial District.
