Position/philosophy statement I’m running to bring back serious and responsible leadership to Union County schools. We already have some of the best public schools in the state, but we can do better.

As a social security disability attorney I have experience representing children with IEP plans that have failed them. And as someone who has practiced law for 17 years, the most important skill I possess for this job is the ability to ask the right questions.
Making sure that school teachers and administrators get the support they need and to ensure that every Union county school student gets a world class education.
Teachers need better pay. Goal number one is repairing the relationship with the county commissioners.
I’m concerned that there are schools in the district that still can’t retain a qualified art teacher. I would like study how we recruit such teachers (apart from pay) to see what we can do better.
I think it’s a terrific idea. Some kids turn 5 but aren’t quite ready for kindergarten. Some parents can’t afford preschool. A Pre-K program ensures students hit the ground running in kindergarten with the social and learning skills necessary to flourish.
I want to build a better relationship with the county commissioners so we can get our teachers the pay raises they deserve. I want to explore different ways to increase reading and math scores without forgetting about equally important subjects like history, art and music. I want to reevaluate the way we use technology in the classroom to make sure we use it responsibly while ensuring students develop the critical thinking skills that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.
Position/philosophy statement Your voice for our teachers, parents, and students!

My professional background, community involvement, and personal commitment to children and families in Union County prepare me to serve effectively on the Board of Education for District Six. I am a registered nurse with experience in high-acuity and intensive care settings, where I make complex, ethical decisions, analyze data, and advocate for vulnerable populations—skills directly applicable to educational governance. I'll soon hold a graduate degree in nursing education, strengthening my leadership, systems thinking, and ability to review data, policies, and budgets thoughtfully.
The most important responsibilities of a Union County Board of Ed member is to set clear policies that support student achievement, approve and oversee the district budget to ensure responsible use of taxpayer funds, and hire and evaluate the superintendent. Board members provide governance, not day-to-day management, while ensuring accountability, TRANSPARENCY, and compliance with state and fed law. They represent the interests of their district, listen to families and staff, and make data-informed decisions that promote safe schools, educational equality, and long-term success for all students.
1. Educator recruitment & retention- Competitive pay, support 2. Fiscal Stewardship- careful, transparent budgets 3. Student achievement & academic support- should guide funding, with targets in math, literacy, and career readiness 4. Family & Community engagement- ensures responsible governance focused on student success, safety, and long-term district sustainability
I'm advocating for competitive pay, manageable classroom sizes, and strong building-level leadership/support from the top down. I'd like to promote mentoring new teachers and building a parent/teacher coalition!
I support high-quality early childhood education and recognize the academic and social benefits. However, I do not support a one size fits all or mandatory approach. I believe parents should retain the right to choose the option that best meets their child's developmental needs.
Running for the District 6 seat on the UC Board of ED. is deeply important to me because our schools shape the future of our children and our community. As a parent, educator, and healthcare professional, I understand the challenges faced by students, families, and teachers alike. I want to be a strong respectful voice for teachers, an advocate for parents, and a champion for our students. I believe collaboration, transparency, and thoughtful leadership are essential to building trust and progress. At the end of the day, my goal is simple, ensuring every teacher feels supported, every parent feels heard, and every student has the opportunity to succeed.
