Position/philosophy statement Government is of, by, and for the people. Too many politicians have made careers out of this instead of working for us. Term limits are vital!
Expanding quality broadband internet to all the citizens of Avery, Burke, and Caldwell Counties. All students and residents need and deserve access to reliable internet. Making sure that veterans and the hard-working people of Avery, Burke, and Caldwell Counties have access to quality, affordable Healthcare by expanding Medicaid. Expanding Medicaid will also bring a variety of jobs to our district, and this will also help retain younger residents by giving them a living wage job.
I would work hard to get Medicaid Expansion passed so that veterans and the hard-working people of Avery, Burke, and Caldwell Counties would have access to quality, affordable healthcare. Expanding Medicaid will also bring a variety of jobs to our district, and this will also help retain younger residents by giving them a living wage job. It would also save our residents money, so they could afford to go to the doctor etc. when needed, instead of choosing between medications they need and putting food on the table.
We need to restore and protect the Earned Income Tax Credit because it helped keep the hard-working middle class residents afloat by saving them money. They then were able to use that saved money on groceries, rent, etc. for themselves and their families. I think it would be a good idea to give companies coming to N.C. subsidies, but especially if they to the Western part of the state (Avery, Burke, Caldwell etc.) where we have non-local construction workers coming in and building new hotels in this area. We could give many residents construction and other jobs instead of non-local companies and workers everything there's a new project.
Broadly speaking, I believe that the re-drawing made many districts less Gerrymandered, such as District 11 by adding Asheville back into its own county/district again. It has also made District 5 more competitive and less Gerrymandered. I do not at this time have a specific time line in mind about when the re-drawing should occur.
