Addressing our traffic congestion is the top legislative priority for my district. The 28th District sits right alongside the I-95 corridor, and our residents are losing valuable family and personal sitting in traffic. I plan to implement a Regional Transportation Authority to fund infrastructure improvements & public transportation such as light-rail across the region. I also will fight to increase access to rural broadband and incentivize telework to get cars off the road at peak hours.
First, I would propose that Virginia moves to make Election Day a state holiday. Secondly, I support any measures pertaining to “no-excuse” absentee voting for our residents. Lastly, I will work to combat felony disenfranchisement to ensure racial equality in our electoral process and move to allow more forms of ID to be allowed at our polling locations.
I fully support a third party, independent redistricting commission to combat gerrymandering in our electoral process. I support a constitutional amendment to the Constitution of Virginia to effectively end gerrymandering across the Commonwealth. I would potentially support legislation ensuring that our legislature would be bound by the commission’s recommendations and not have the ability to discard them.
The epidemic of gun violence across the Commonwealth and our nation is a national emergency. We must take on the NRA and implement Universal Background Checks & Red Flag Laws. Extreme Risk Protection Orders could help prevent these tragedies before they occur by equipping local law enforcement to seize weapons from individuals for a period of time that are deemed a threat to themselves and others. We can respect the 2nd Amendment while keeping our communities safe.
