I believe that I will continue to contribute as a member of the School Board towards the improvement of our school and community through fiscal responsibility, improved access to educational opportunities and facilities, and support of the faculty and staff in meeting students' and parents' needs. As the lead negotiator for the last two 5-year contracts with the teachers' union, I helped strike a balance between the budgetary constraints that all schools face and fair and equitable compensation for our district's dedicated teachers. Both contracts avoided any possible disruption to the district but guaranteed that the school could continue to operate sustainably. During my time on the Board, the district has completed major construction projects while also maintaining a fund balance to protect against decreased state funding and unexpected expenses that may occur.
Chartiers-Houston School District is the foundation upon which our community rests, and the bonds that exist between parents, students, teachers and the administration in a small school like ours is one of its greatest strengths. The community is involved in and enjoys academic, musical and sporting events through the high school, junior high and elementary schools, and continues to support the school and its students and teachers every day. As the District's representative on the Chartiers-Houston Community Library--where I serve as President of the Board--I see that improvement is needed in the form of dedicated state funding for both our schools and other institutions that foster learning for our students. I am proud that I have been able to contribute on behalf of the School District to the continued success of the Library along with Houston Boro and Chartiers Township, but would like to see the state government do more to support our schools and community libraries.

I am seeking re-election to the Chartiers-Houston school board because of my strong interest in maintaining a vital connection to our school system. I am motivated to assist in resolving an array of challenges, to work in conjunction with our administrative staff and to make well-informed decisions. The best interests and safety of our students and staff is paramount in my motivation to seek re-election.
Chartiers-Houston School District has a number of strengths but as a district we must always be cognizant that advances in technology may well generate effective strategies for moving forward for our students.
