Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors Bermuda District

Duties - The five-member Chesterfield Board of Supervisors is the policy making body of the county. It passes ordinances and approves the annual budget. Members are elected from the five magisterial districts and they choose a chair and vice chair each year. The Board of Supervisors appoints a County Administrator, who directs the county's day-to-day operations.Term - 4 yearsSalary - $37,008 (Vice Chair $38,583; Chair $40,158)

What are your priorities for managing residential and commercial growth in the county?

Do you support funding for improvements in bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in Chesterfield County? Please explain why or why not.

In a recent public opinion poll, 82% of Virginia voters believe that people should be able to afford to live in the community where they work. What programs or policies would you support to promote workforce housing in your district?

Community vision is of paramount importance. Responsible development must be supported by the community. Chesterfield has recently prioritized developers over residents. A major example of this has been the decision to make mega-million dollar cuts in cash proffers for wealthy developers while expecting middle class homeowners pay the bill. As the only candidate to not taking contributions from developers, I want to allow citizens to shape growth within their communities.
I absolutely support the need for making chesterfield more accessible to bicyclists and pedestrians. There are many people in the Bermuda district who do not have reliable access to transportation, and the lack of sidewalks and bike lanes make traveling to work, school, grocery stores, and medical appointments difficult, dangerous, and sometimes fatal. The number of pedestrian deaths in Chesterfield County is increasing. Six in 2017; seven in 2018 (Source: Chesterfield Observer).
Having diverse options in housing is extremely important. We must see how communities in different areas of the county wish to grow. Implementing a cash proffer policy on development that would better account for the financial costs associated with growth in the county is a must. This would make it easier for communities to grow in a way that would account for the financial impacts of growth on government services without having increases in real estate or car taxes on middle class citizens
Many huge issues: Lack of access to public transportation (on a budget of more than 700 million dollars, the 1.2 million dollar bus routes citizens want can be added if made a budget priority). Lack of transparency in government expenditures of more than 10 million dollars (it will be important to have meetings of appointed boards recorded and to have longer public comment periods on major zoning and Econ development cases). Aging population (Long term planning). Improving quality of schools.
