I have lived in Lenexa with my husband Bob for more than 40 years and raised our family here in our Country Hill neighborhood. As a career professional I have had great opportunities in Johnson County in retail, manufacturing, small business ownership, and membership organization engagement. My leadership and career professional experience makes me the best qualified person to serve on the Lenexa governing body representing Ward 4.

Lenexa has always been and continues to be a city with a great vision for the future. It has the largest commercial tax base in Johnson County and has the ability to ensure that Lenexa is the best community to conduct business and enjoy life.
1. Continued investment in public safety for fire and police to provide safe and secure in all neighborhoods.
2. The City has a great foundation for moving forward with Vision 2040, the New Look at Old Town Lenexa along with the recently adopted (a long-term plan) Complete Street Plan will support enhancements for our community. The Complete Street Plan will be the incorporation of bike lanes, shared bike stations, walkable trails for the best land use for health, safety, sustainability and economic development through a multimodal approach to planning.

I am an experienced leader with business, civic, community development and city engagement. I have worked with over 600 business in growing and expanding their markets. I am very familiar with city governance and fiscally sound budgeting and economic development. I have the ability to work with small businesses, as a former small business owner, along with the largest Global companies. I have served and held leadership roles on many professional, civic and community boards. With an outstanding professional work ethic, growing up on a Kansas farm, and a passion for my community and now the time, being recently retired, I can be devoted to my City Council responsibilities and best represent Ward 4 citizens.
Affordable housing, interpreted in many ways, is one of the biggest challenges facing the greater KC Metro. Do we mean single person rentals, multiunit housing or home ownership? Lenexa has neighborhoods, certainly in Ward 4, with offerings for older single family homes for first time buyers and older multi-unit apartment buildings. However, within the Old Town Lenexa area, several new duplex units are being built in an infill area just North of 95th street. In the Old Town District, the City has a revitalization fund that homeowners can use to make exterior improvements. Also, the City has standards and a licensing process for apartment and multiunit rental property for inspections to ensure that the property is well maintained and in good condition as rentals.
Lenexa has now passed a complete non-discrimination ordinance along with a Hate Crime ordinance and extended the City non-discrimination policy to cover contractors working with the City. I fully support this action by the Mayor and Governing Body in lieu of the State or Federal government acting. Lenexa will continue to be a great city, and this shows that everyone is welcome and must be treated with equal respect.
I was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas and obtained my degree in Interior Design at the University of Kansas. Since then, I have called Johnson County home, the last five years of which have been in Lenexa.

1. The residents of Ward 4 want to see progress in the revitalization of the older parts of Eastern Lenexa. The City has conducted studies that need to now move into implementation.
2. I would like to be the City’s first representative among the leaders on the Metro KC Climate Action Coalition. This group is working on a regional approach that will allow municipalities to adopt ordinances related to energy usage, reduction of food waste, land use and other initiatives that can address global warming at a local level.
3. As we implement the Lenexa 2040 plan calling for neighborhood “nodes” of amenities that are close in proximity to individual neighborhoods, we need to be working in parallel with our Complete Streets plan to make a distinction between the trail system and implementation of bike infrastructure in order to ensure that all parts of Lenexa are walkable and bikable.
In my career as a Commercial Interior Designer, I have spent the past 15 years focused on protecting the health, safety and welfare of the public. Architects and Designers have the profound responsibility of making sustainable choices for the environment, while stewarding the structures in which people in this country spend 90% of their time: spaces in which we learn, heal, work, and play. I am running for City Council in Lenexa because it is the natural progression of the passion I have for ensuring that my community, neighbors and friends have the tools they need to thrive, while each doing our part to safeguard our planet for generations to come.
1. Additional promotion of The City’s revitalization cost-sharing programs that are available to homeowners with older homes in Ward 4 to ensure that existing housing stock remains attractive/affordable to new residents
2. Adaptive reuse of existing buildings
3. Revisit zoning ordinances and development standards to create more variety in housing types: small single-family, duplexes, multi-family, etc.
Lenexans pride themselves on being a friendly, welcoming and connected community, and I believe it to be of utmost importance to ensure inclusivity of everyone in our community. If elected, I would be strongly in favor of a city ordinance to include protections for sexuality and gender identity, similar to those that have been adopted by smaller communities in Johnson County. Of the larger cities, we have the opportunity to be a leader by adopting an NDO and set the example of how local policy can send a message to higher levels of government.
