Restoring trust in local government by bringing transparency and accountability to the office while ensuring comprehensive public safety.
Negatively. We’re being told this debt for these new projects will pay for itself and create a bigger tax base from which to draw. No, that won’t happen. It hasn’t worked in the past and won’t work now.
They are very important. In Wichita, we do not have mountains and oceans and large lakes for recreation and scenery; these are things that differentiate us from many popular large cities in our country. Making our parks and public spaces beautiful, inviting, recreational destinations, are things that will enhance our quality of life, and make Wichita a more attractive place for visitors, and companies wishing to invest in our community for the long term. Currently, the vast majority of our parks have grass and some trees; we can do much better at making our parks interesting and diverse destination attractions, with the addition of variety, gardens, and public art.

I am also concerned with the fact that District 4 does not have a public community center. Our neighbors want and need a place to host organized public recreational activities for youth and seniors alike.
First, more public education needs to be made more readily available in regard to the bid process for public projects. I will continue to push for increased engagement with local businesses (especially veteran, minority, and women owned businesses) regarding the city bid process and opportunities.

Second, our government officials cannot be allowed to disburse millions of OUR tax dollars behind closed doors without public input. I will fight to end no bid contracts, push for public disclosure of contributions to city council members from any developers, realtors, construction related cos. prior to any vote where there could be the impression of favoritism and I will not vote for any proposal or ordinance, via consent agenda, while there is organized opposition; each person deserves to have their voice on record.
We have to take a proactive approach to celebrate our differences and our similarities. The key here, and in all issues, is communication; the most important facet of communication is listening. I propose bringing back city advisory boards to address: Health and Human Wellness; Poverty; Veterans Affairs; Racial Relations; Civil Rights; Women’s Issues; Youth; and LGBTQ+ Issues.

In addition, we as a city need to stand up for that which is right and state clearly that “bigotry has no home here.” We need a comprehensive non-discrimination ordinance, to protect from discrimination in employment and housing, on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.
I’m not content with settling for any growth, I understand we need to be comparing our rate of growth against those of our peer cities. Celebrating meager growth while we’re underperforming against comparable cities is deceptive. I understand the obligation elected officials have to be transparent and honest with their constituents, an obligation to discuss the tough issues.
