I am in my fourth year as Mayor and I really like all aspects of the job. I enjoy the challenges and work towards keeping our town a liveable, clean and safe community. My main focus is to keep ahead of the issues that face our town and provide strong, positive leadership.
Maintain the small town charm. Work to provide affordable housing. Preserve our spectacular natural assets e.g. our lake, our hillsides
I believe that “attainable housing” is the most urgent need. So many things are tied to this subject. For example without adequate housing for the lower/middle class, we loose the real fabric of Chelan. We need the lower/ middle class to be able to afford to stay and contribute to our community. It also helps create a stable work force and can help us attract new clean, light industry to provide a stable economic base.
Same as I have done so already...lean towards them for input, encourage a civil discussion, work hard to communicate key issues ahead of time and in general provide leadership to reach our goals.
I believe that it is critical for the City to be the leader in this field. First to examine our current practices, then make changes that help reduce waste, promotes best practices to keep and improve sustainable practices. Education by all including myself is key to making a positive difference. During my term, we have made some advances in this field but see opportunities to ensure we pass on a cleaner, safer environment.
Street preservation. Constantly upgrade our water and sewer lines. Invest in improving our pump/lift stations. Do everything we can to prepare and prevent wildfires.
Stay out of issues such as this that are governed by the federal government. It is not a function of the City to handle.
By getting ahead of the housing issue that I already addressed. Our City has done a good job of partnering with the local housing advocates; Chelan Valley Housing Trust, Habitat for Humanity and the Wenatchee Housing Authority. Another organization that our City has partnered with is Chelan Valley Hope. They provide services to the most vulnerable. In addition, our City has been a supporter of the Chelan Food Bank. If we can maintain our strong local economy (jobs) and provide a wide variety of housing, I believe that we can reduce the number of folks that do not have a home.
