I have extensive experience in all aspects of Michigan City government, including 7 years hands-on experience as Mayor, 8 years on the Michigan City Common Council, with 3 years as President of the City Council, 6 years on the Human Rights Commission, and I served as a Michigan City municipal employee for 20 years. I have assembled a team of experts to fill the management positions throughout all of Michigan City's departments, and I lead by example, whether sitting in on negotiation meetings with potential investors or driving a snowplow. One of my first jobs was with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources working offshore, protecting Lake Michigan and Trail Creek. I care deeply about the health and safety of our residents, and I am an advocate and defender for our natural resource.
As quality of life, and education improves; as we leverage and multiply our tax dollars; and as we improve our environment, it will become easier to attract higher paying employers.

1.) I will continue to improve quality of life for Michigan City residents by inviting an open dialogue to reduce crime, and assist Michigan City Area Schools to improve our workforce.

2.) I will continue to encourage my departments to seek external grant money. Since 2012, Michigan City has received over $17,000,000 from external sources, freeing Michigan City's taxpayer dollars to make other improvements.

3.) I will continue to improve our environment, economic development, and infrastructure.

All of these priorities will expand investment, job creation, and raise per capita income for our residents.
I INTEND, not hope, to accomplish the following: cleanup contamination as discovered and keep the public informed, improve housing stock through lead remediation and encourage maintenance and new construction, attract builders and investors, retain our loyal employers, educate our workforce, draw new higher pay job makers, push down on crime, provide pedestrian and bicycle access south of US-20 and throughout the city, improve neighborhood parks, seek grants to multiply our tax dollars, and continue to balance the budgets. (This is only a partial list.) I will continue to drive through all Michigan City neighborhoods on a weekly basis and meet with our residents. I learn their concerns and then work with my departments for resolution. I have the team that can do this, and a proven record!
Michigan City is my lifework. I am the only candidate who knows the operations of every department in Michigan City Government, and I am the only candidate who has walked and worked in every street and every alley, day and night, summer, and winter. I have learned almost every aspect of Michigan City's government, our businesses, our culture, and our people. I have a good rapport with regional business and government leaders, Indiana State Senators, Representatives, as well as US Representative Visclosky. I am a good Democrat; furthermore, I have a good relationship with Governor Holcomb, Vice President Pence, and our US Senators. I am the only candidate to have had the honor to be your mayor, and therefore the only candidate to be able to submit a job history for your consideration.
