Pennsbury School District School Director Region 1 (4 YR Term)

A school board is a legislative body of citizens called school directors, who are elected locally by their fellow citizens and who serve as the governing body of each public school district. Each board consists of nine members who serve four-year terms of office. Unlike most other elected officials, school directors receive no compensation for their work. Principal duties include appointing and/or dismissing superintendents, principals and teachers; levying school taxes; purchasing land; locating new buildings; adopting textbooks and courses of study; fixing salaries of teachers and other appointees of the Board.

We continue to be at a critical crossroad between preparing our children for the future and increasing financial pressures. Student’s needs around safety, security and educational services keep evolving and the financial pressures keep mounting.

We need strong leadership and a holistic approach to address current and emerging issues and prepare our children for life-long success.

As a current School Board director, I ensured fiscal responsibility and good governance by allocating funds wisely and being prudent with our limited tax dollars. I also supported a well-rounded curriculum for the students.

I will continue to ensure current services are maintained and built upon including expanded use of the Chromebooks, introducing STEM at the elementary level and cyber learning opportunities.

I will look to improve collaboration with elected officials and advocate for changes at the state level including pension reform, charter school funding formula and increased educational funding.
I have degrees in engineering and information science with 20+ years of experience working in the corporate world leading teams and overseeing large projects and budgets. But my main qualification is my passion to share my time and skills and ensure our children are given every opportunity to succeed.

In addition, I have had the honor of serving on the current School Board for 3 years with increasing levels of responsibilities from chair of the finance committee, vice president and was most recently elected board president.

As finance chair, we reduced operating expenses, refinanced bonds to save money and balanced the budget well within the Act 1 index. I was also part of the board that successfully negotiated contracts with various employee groups and hired a Superintendent and Business Administrator.

I am a collaborative, non-partisan problem solver who has have been a voice for the children, parents, staff and tax payers and would like to continue to do so.
