One of my most important roles as Legislator is connecting residents to the many resources offered by Westchester County. Communicating with constituents by phone, email, personal appearances and meetings helps me better understand their concerns and provide the support they need.

The County Airport is an ongoing issue. Environmental concerns are particularly important due to the proximity of the Kensico Reservoir. I have announced legislation that requires twice yearly mandatory testing of the groundwater in order to protect our drinking water, our health and our property values. I will continue to work hard to give the public a say in the future of the airport.

After many years of neglect, investment in infrastructure has begun again and I’ve helped secure funding for local projects, including new sidewalks in Harrison and a study to address persistent flooding in Rye Brook and at the Port Chester Middle School. I am also working to get funding for long overdue road repairs.
For years the county relied on short term gimmicks to “balance” its budget; I have been working with my fellow Legislators to restore true fiscal responsibility to Westchester. Shared services and re-negotiated contracts are saving the county tens of millions of dollars. I’ve insisted on increased oversight of contracts to avoid costly surprises and/or litigation down the road. And we’ve put operating expenses back where they belong--in the operating budget--which will save taxpayers money in the long run.

I also recognize that smart economic growth is vital for the county’s coffers. Empowering small businesses and entrepreneurs in Westchester County is essential to grow our local economy and maintain Westchester’s status as a top place to live in New York. I’m working with the NYS Small Business Development Center to bring free consulting services to new and existing small businesses in Port Chester, Harrison and Rye Brook.
