Administers the Regional Board of Education which serves as an intermediate agency between the Illinois State Board of Education and the local school districts. The superintendent oversees such services as GED testing, life safety inspections of school buildings, bus driver training, and continuing education for teachers and administrators. The regional superintendent is an elected office, unrelated to the appointed superintendents of school districts that operate the public schools.
