County Commissioner and Commissioners Court As member of the Commissioners Court, exercises broad policy-making authority. Represents one of four precincts within the county. Typically responsible for building and maintaining county roads and bridges within the precinct. The Commissioners Court conducts the general business of the county and consists of the County Judge and four Commissioners.The Court: Adopts the county’s budget and tax rate. Approves all budgeted purchases of the county. Fills vacancies in elective and appointive offices. Sets all salaries and benefits. Has exclusive authority to authorize contracts. Provides and maintains all county buildings and facilities.

Because of my experience as a County Commissioner, I am keenly aware of our infrastructure needs. I was instrumental in the development of a Long Range Facility Master Plan which outlines the short and long term needs of Gillespie County, including infrastructure.
Water quality and water supply concerns are always a top priority. Counties do not have much authority in regards to water issues, however, we do have those concerns addressed in our Subdivision Policies. Water issues should be a concern to everyone as our population grows.
Gillespie County has an active Indigent Health Program administered by a very qualified director. We also provide health and dental care for our jail inmates, which can become quite expensive. In addition, provide funding for our Good Samaritan Center which handles medical and dental issues at reduced rates.
About the only authority given to County government regarding orderly growth is the implementation of a viable Subdivision Policy. When new subdivisions are planned, we have a process in place and must be rigidly followed by developers. We also have a Subdivision Administrator to insure compliance.
I always have an open door policy and encourage input from constituents by any means possible, whether it is on a one-on-one meeting, social media, phone calls, emails, or any other method where we can have a two-way dialogue. Effective communications is critical.
Vacancies must go through the application process as required. The best qualified candidates for the job are then interviewed by a panel and a final decision is made on who is hired to fill a vacancy. All Human Resource policies must be strictly followed. Quality employees are the backbone to ///
