FRANKLIN PIERCE SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 402 Proposition No. 1

Replacement Educational Programs and Operations LevyThe Board of Directors of Franklin Pierce School District No. 402 adopted Resolution No. 17-R-10 concerning a proposition to replace an expiring levy for education. If approved, Proposition No. 1 will authorize the District to levy the following excess taxes, replacing an expiring levy, on all taxable property within the District for educational programs and operations expenses not funded by the State:Collection Year Estimated Rate/$1,000 Assessed ValueLevy Amount2019 $4.71 $19,000,000 2020 $4.31 $20,000,000 2021 $3.93$21,000,0002022 $3.58 $22,000,000all as provided in Resolution No. 17-R-10 and subject to legal limits on levy rates and amounts at the time of levy. Explanatory StatementPassage of Proposition 1 would help Franklin Pierce School District fund educational programs and operations not funded by the State, including, but not limited to: classroom teachers; safety personnel; health services, librarians and counselors; student transportation (staff and fuel costs); programs for special needs students, such as gifted, remedial and disabled; textbooks, classroom supplies and library materials; music; art and athletic programs; and other educational programs and operations expenses. Taxes collected by the proposed levy will provide approximately 18% of the District’s General Fund budget.The proposed four-year levy will replace the District’s current levy approved by the voters in 2014 that expires at the end of 2018. Passage of this proposition would authorize the collection of taxes to provide $19,000,000 in 2019; $20,000,000 in 2020; $21,000,000 in 2021; and $22,000,000 in 2022. The tax levy rates required to produce these levy amounts are estimated to be $4.71 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2019, $4.31 in 2020, $3.93 in 2021 and $3.58 in 2022.Exemptions from taxes may be available to homeowners who are 61 or older, or disabled, and who meet certain income requirements.
