Should this proposition be approved? Levy Yes Levy No Explanatory StatementPassage of Proposition 1 would help Kalama School District fund educational programs and operations not funded by the State of Washington, including, but not limited to: extra-curricular activities (including coaches and extended school days or an extended school year); additional course offerings beyond the minimum instructional program as defined by the State as basic education; additional salaries related to the provision and administration of enrichment activities, student transportation, which is above the state funded costs; and special education. Taxes collected by the proposed levy will provide approximately 19% of the District’s General Fund budget. The proposed two-year levy will replace the District’s current levy approved by the voters in 2015 that expires at the end of 2018. The tax levy rate required to produce these levy amounts is estimated to be $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value. Based on recent changes to state law, the tax rate for the District’s educational programs and operation levy will decrease from $1.80 in 2018 to $1.50 in 2019.Exemptions from taxes may be available to certain homeowners.
