Replacement Levy for Instructional Technology ImprovementsThe Board of Directors of Sumner School District No. 320 adopted Resolution No. 9/17-18 concerning a proposition for a replacement levy for instructional technology improvements. Explanatory StatementPassage of Proposition 2 would allow Sumner School District to continue to acquire and install instructional technology equipment and infrastructure (including maintaining one-to-one student digital device ratio); upgrade and replace computers, hardware, software and telecommunication systems; provide related staff training and support to implement such technology improvements; and make other improvements and upgrades to the District’s technology systems and facilities, all to increase student access to technology. The proposed six-year levy will replace the District’s current levy approved by the voters in 2014 that expires at the end of 2018, and would authorize the collection of taxes to provide $5,200,000 in 2019; $5,800,000 in 2020; $5,800,000 in 2021; $5,200,000 in 2022; $4,000,000 in 2023; and $4,000,000 in 2024. The tax levy rates required to produce these amounts are estimated to be $0.60 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2019, decreasing to an estimated $0.28 in 2024. Based on recent changes to state law that reduce the District’s educational programs and operation levy, overall tax rates for combined District levies will decrease starting in 2019.Exemptions from taxes may be available to certain homeowners.
