Replacement Educational Programs and Operations LevyThe Board of Directors of University Place School District No. 83 adopted Resolution No. 807-11-08-17 concerning a proposition to fund educational programs and operations. If approved, Proposition No. 1 will replace an expiring levy and authorize the District to levy, subject to applicable limitations, the following excess taxes on all taxable property within the District to fund eligible educational programs and operations, including teachers, nurses, counselors, safety personnel, textbooks, athletics and special education: Collection Year Estimated Levy Rate/$1,000 Assessed Value Amount 2019 $2.50 $9,961,000 2020 $2.50 $10,957,000 2021 $2.50 $12,053,000 2022 $2.50 $13,258,000 all as provided in Resolution No. 807-11-08-17. Explanatory StatementPassage of University Place School District Proposition 1 would replace the expiring education and operations levy in 2018. Proposition 1 would continue to pay for educational programs and daily operations, including teachers, nurses, counselors, support staff, athletic and extra-curricular programs, instructional materials, transportation, performing arts and music programs, staff training, after-school extended day and summer academic programs. Proposition 1, subject to applicable limits, allows the District to levy $9,961,000 in 2019, $10,957,000 in 2020, $12,053,000 in 2021, and $13,258,000 in 2022. If approved, Proposition 1 would result in a tax rate lower than the current local school property tax rate. Property taxes would be collected at a rate estimated to be $2.50/$1,000 of assessed value in each of the years from 2019 to 2022. The actual levy rates will be adjusted based upon the assessed value of property within the District and the legal limits on the levy amount and levy rate at the time of each levy. The actual amount collected may be less based on the current maximum levy rate of $1.50/$1,000 of assessed value.
