I believe that having Saturday Court once a month would be a great way to offer easier access to working families. Many working families are unable to take off during the week, so offering a Saturday option may assist in alleviating a great deal of stress and concern.
I believe that programs and partnerships should be created to assist working families that are struggling to make ends meet. I’ve reached out to the Texas Tenants Union and have informed them that I would like to possibly form a partnership with them to do exactly that. My vision is to apply for or create grants that can be set aside for individuals in need of housing assistance.
I believe that truancy is another big problem for JP Courts. I would like to create a mentorship program to get youth that have fallen behind in school attendance to get them back on track. Part of the program would include having individuals who had similar stories but overcame them, speak to and show them their own path to success. Often times, as long as young people are able to see that people who look like them or have had similar experiences, they are able to find their way down a much clearer path.

Providing an affordable and accessible means of justice to all people will be be of vital importance if I am elected Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2, Place 1. I am in support of providing the means of flexible hours, if it is possible, to be able to provide the required services after hours with necessary staffing. To clarify the idea of flexible hours, I mean the possibility of evening court sessions several times per week or offering a weekend schedule to accommodate the people of the precinct that do not have flexibility in their weekly work schedules. In addition, I would like to have a user friendly website that offers information on how to file a small claims case, outline for eviction filings as well as informational videos.
Leases are contracts, therefore, the terms of the lease must be enforced according to their terms. If landlords or tenants are in breach, the other party has rights that may be enforced under the lease or under state statutes. Eviction cases can be very emotional. No one likes the idea of being evicted from a home. I will do my best to treat all with dignity and respect, but in the end, I will have to decide if there was a breach of lease and proper notice to vacate. If the landlord has prosecuted an eviction case correctly, then they will likely be entitled to the relief they seek. Equity is not done by denying a party a legal remedy it is entitled to under law. However, I will provide some online education for tenants and landlords
Possibly the efficiency of the courts, depending on the back log of cases. I would have to familiarize myself with the administrative processes and see if there are ways to improve the systems that are currently in place.
