I am a board certified civil appellate lawyer who has spent her career representing Texas families, injured workers, and consumers as they seek justice in Texas appellate courts. No sitting justices are board certified in civil appellate law.
While scientific advances are critical in specific cases, a more troubling trend is the lack of resources available to indigent litigants in civil appeals. Other appellate courts have adopted projects that match those litigants with volunteer attorneys, but the Fourth Court has not done so yet. I will make launching that program a priority to close this justice gap.
I believe in every Texan’s ABSOLUTE right to an appeal, and I am concerned by efforts to undermine that right or to limit access to our courts. I will work hard every day to ensure that all Texans have confidence that our courts will apply the law fairly and equally to all.
