Antonia Fire District - Proposition Fire Safety
Simple Majority RequiredBallot Wording: Shall the Board of Directors of the Antonia Fire Protection District be authorized to levy an additional tax of not more than fifty cents on the one hundred dollars assessed valuation to provide funds for the support of the District? The District intends to use the proceeds for the purpose of providing quality emergency services to the community by keeping current staffing levels, maintaining all three fire stations within the District, acquiring needed equipment, and ensuring access to appropriate training for its staff.Summary: Proposition Fire Safety: This initiative would allow the Board of Directors of the Antonia Fire Protection District to levy an additional $0.50 of property tax per $100 of assessed value in the district. If passed,, a homeowner with property assessed at $100,000 would pay an estimated $95 increase in property taxes per year. The Fire Protection District proposes to use the additional funds to pay to keep on personnel hired using a federal SAFER grant awarded by FEMA in 2015. Retaining the additional personnel would allow the district to staff a third station around the clock. hopes that coverage provided by staffing all three stations continuously may allow a drop in fire insurance rates for property owners in the district. The funds would also allow the district to replace outdated breathing equipment for personnel.
