Dominion Voting Systems BallotAsking to increase the City of Pueblo’s sales and use tax by 0.2% (1/5 %) for five years (January 1, 2018, through December 31, 2022) by adopting Ordinance 9141. This would increase the tax base by $3.6 million the first year, and similar amounts for the next 4 years. The money raised through this tax would be used only for police personnel and operating needs for the Police Department. Ballot Language:(ONE-FIFTH CENT SALES TAX FOR POLICE PERSONNEL AND OPERATING NEEDS) SHALL THE CITY OF PUEBLO'S TAXES BE INCREASED BY UP TO $3.6 MILLION ANNUALLY (FIRST FULL FISCAL YEAR INCREASE) AND BY WHATEVER AMOUNTS ARE RAISED ANNUALLY THEREAFTER, FOR FIVE YEARS FROM JANUARY 1, 2018 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2022, BY ADOPTING ORDINANCE NO. 9141 IMPOSING AN ADDITIONAL ONE-FIFTH PERCENT (.2%) CITY SALES AND USE TAX RATE AND SHALL ALL REVENUES DERIVED FROM SUCH TAX BE COLLECTED, RETAINED AND SPENT, NOTWITHSTANDING ANY LIMITATIONS PROVIDED BY LAW, AS A VOTER APPROVED REVENUE CHANGE AND AN EXCEPTION TO THE LIMITS WHICH WOULD OTHERWISE APPLY PURSUANT TO ARTICLE X, SECTION 20 OF THE COLORADO CONSTITUTION OR ANY OTHER LAW AND ESTABLISHING A SPECIAL FUND FOR THE DEPOSIT OF SUCH REVENUES TO BE SPENT ONLY FOR POLICE PERSONNEL AND OPERATING NEEDS?

Arguments

• More police officers would increase the safety level in Pueblo. We need an increased police presence in our community. • The Chief’s plan for the additional (24) officers is that 16 would join the patrol division where they would reduce response time, increase foot and bike patrols and participate in community policing projects. Three would be added to the gang unit, two would work in narcotics and three would be in the criminal investigations division.
• The police department just needs to use the current staff more efficiently. • Our taxes are already too high.
