The current plan was created by citizen experts of the Broadband Authority, approved by the Planning Commission and by the County Board. During this process all options, introduced by different industry professionals, were carefully considered. Compromises had to be made due to our mostly rural vs high density locations and easement issues. These factors drove the cost of the alternatives beyond our financial capabilities. I support the decision but will carefully monitor the future progress.
Louisa County will always be a rural county. However, we are poised for economic growth in Zion Crossroads . We need to capitalize on the connection with Interstate 64, by means of proactive planning, oversight, and execution to create functional and appealing community based development versus further SPRAWL! We need marketing directly to targeted businesses to promote and maintain a strong private and public partnership for mutual success providing quality job growth and multiple tax sources.
Cutting taxes or keeping them low is a common ploy to gain votes. No one wants to pay taxes. But when it comes to safety, security and quality of life, there must be sufficient funds. Everyone also agrees good schools and basic maintenance on roads and facilities are needed. This requires a logical approach, careful analysis, debate and compromise . We need to carefully prioritize in order to balance our real needs with the resources available. This is my definition of fiscal conservatism.
